Cross-dressing in film, part II.

Part 1: Cross-dressing in film

Hello little engendros!
This is the second part of Crossdressing in films! They were not the best movies I've seen compared to the first part, but I wanted to share them anyway.

Albert Nobbs (2011)
Albert Nobbs 1

Albert Nobbs struggles to survive in late 19th-century Ireland, where women aren't encouraged to be independent. Posing as a man so she can work as a butler in Dublin's most elegant hotel, Albert meets a handsome painter and looks to escape the lie she has been living.

To be honest, it was not the best movie I've ever seen. I have decided to watch at it just because it was set in a 19th century and also because it was focus on the lives of the servants. The performance in general was a bit awkward...but I must say that the production in terms of wardrobe and appearance was very cool and well done.

Shakespeare In Love (1998)

Shakespeare In Love 3

A young Shakespeare, out of ideas and short of cash, meets his ideal woman and is inspired to write one of his most famous plays.

Oh well, I like everything about Shakespeare. Shakespeare was and is an important writer in the history of English literature And if you didn't know, my studies are related to English cukture & literature! haha! With this you can have an idea of why I have decided to watch the movie.
umm It was good, but not super good. If you like art, theater, literature (especially poems), England set in the 19th century, romance and drama, so you should see this movie!

Orlando (1992)

Orlando (1992) 1

Young nobleman Orlando is commanded by Queen Elizabeth I to stay forever young. Miraculously, he does just that. The film follows him as he moves through several centuries of British history, experiencing a variety of lives and relationships along the way, and even changing sex.

This film is the adaptation of the novel by one of my preferred writers, Virginia Woolf.
Unfortunately I haven't read the novel, I'm planning to read it soon!
I found the movie .... interesting ... but a little boring, to tell you the truth. To say that it is about crossdressing is not merely correct, because in Orlando there is no time or gender boundaries and because Orlando was a man till the age of thirty and then he became a woman and has remained so ever since. It has to do with a history lesson on the nature of sexual politics between men and women.
It was interesting to watch it, but also it was very weird. I must add that the costume enchants me! It was splendid choice of wardrobe in general!

The Triumph of Love (2001)

The Triumph of Love (2001) 4

In an unidentified country in 18th century Europe, a usurper's daughter has inherited the throne and feels guilty about her family's crimes. She learns that a rightful heir exists but has been taught to hate her and reject all love, and who additionally is kept in seclusion to protect him from her. Spying on his household, she falls in love at the first sight of him, suggesting an obvious happy ending as regards the throne. But to even get close enough to him to talk about it, she must embark on a series of bribes, deceptions, and seductions...

This movie reminded me of Lady Oscar because of the costume lol well, I really like the actor Ben Kingsley being part of cast and that was one of the reasons for me to watch it hehe.
At first I enjoyed it but..in the middle of the movie I got bored because the protagonist tells too soon that ´he´ is really a ´she´ -.-
It has a lot of romance and a little of comedy ... also love trio and gender roles that remind me to William Shakespeare's Twelfth nights.

Queen Christina (1933)

Queen Christina (1933) 1

Queen Christina of Sweden is a popular monarch who is loyal to her country. However, when she falls in love with a Spanish envoy, she must choose between the throne and the man she loves.

This is a very old movie! from 1933.
I like black and white movies...well. most of the time. If it comes to monarchs, kings, politics and world history I like it even more! Needless to mention that romance in black and white movies are too cloying and over-acted but it´s fine for me.
This movie is not the great thing, we notice that the protagonist is clearly a woman and nobody doubts that because she´s a queen! Her masculine clothing is like a way of protest because the fact of being a woman and having power in the old days (and also nowadays) was always taken as joke.
She knows that if she acts and dresses like a submissive woman of the time, she will only be a chess piece and everyone would only use her. Her duty as queen and as a woman is to marry and give an heir to her country, but she is very intelligent and she has a strong character to play that role.
I really admire characters like her, you can take as an example Mulan, I really like her!

I think I will do a third part but I´m still not sure to do a fourth part about crossdressing in movies. What do you think?
Well, that´s all for now!
